I also remember it happening in SMTIV: Apocalypse. I started replaying Soul Hackers recently and noticed this with a handful of demons. In many of the games, demons of the same species might talk about remembering the player if you talk to them again, even after killing them before. This one is more in theory territory, but I believe in most if not all SMT games, demons of the same species share a consciousness and/or memories.
